I finally had hot water for my shower today--that was fabulous! And breakfast is always from the same bakery and served with coffee and, if you'd like, a fried or boiled egg. This bit of routine and predictability is enhanced by great conversations with the other guests. Everyone is getting along quite well here, and I really enjoy talking with each of the guests. :) If you would like a run down, keep reading!
[ A Love of Housemates]
Sasha - Sasha is from Austria, here working with a German company on biomass energy. He will be leaving in about a month. So far, his studies of Nepali are going quite well, and he is the most fluent of any of the guests. Whenever Lettie talks about her company, its structure always seems to pique his interest, and he is most often at the dining room table studying Nepali when I come back.
Barbara - Barbara is also from Austria, and I believe she and Sasha are together--they seem to get along quite well! I love talking with Barbara, as she is very animated and lively. She is also fervently working on Nepali and is a professional photographer. She is always very bright and happy when I see her.
Oliver - Oli was one of the first guest house inhabitants that I talked with extensively (at the Bar-B-Que on Sunday). He has shoulder-length grey/white hair and a great pair of mustard-yellow pants. He is in Nepal shooting a film for to be broadcasted back in Germany. Unfortunately, he left Monday morning for a 9 day filming excursion!
Ralph - Ralph is brothers with Oli--although you wouldn't guess it from their looks! He is also working on the filming project, but did not go with Oli and thus is staying here. Ralph is very sweet and sometimes runs with Stefan in the morning, although he doesn't usually go as far as Stefan!
Stefan - I didn't really talk with Stefan until a few days in, as we always seemed to be just missing each other. But we did go to Cafe Ghangri tonight for spring rolls and it was delicious! We ended up talking for several hours--it was really great to hear his views and discuss spirituality. He goes for hour long runs (this morning it was 2.5 hours!) in the morning. He is working with the same company as Sasha (I think) on energy efficiency audits.
Letisha - Lettie arrived the same day I did, but is only staying for 15 days! She is from France and is taking her vacation time from H&M to volunteer at the CYF organization here in Nepal. She is working with Nepali women to make new products, like purses, out of materials they can afford. She also got to visit a boarding school today and they sang to her! She showed me the video--it was very cute. :) She is great to talk with, as she is so passionate about what she is doing and her French accent is a delight to listen to!
The people in my house are my main social interaction, but work has been steadily improving in this realm as well! Rashmi has taken me to lunch a second day, which is so sweet of her! We sit under a rubber tree (not made of, but used in the making of) after lunch and watch some employees play cricket on the front lawn. There are a few people who I can recognize and associate with now, but I am still hoping to learn more names and faces. :)
Everything is going very well, and I am finding it very easy to adjust so far. Pictures will be posted after this! :)
Peace and love,
Abby
